posters (and the house)

There are still many things to "digest" about the London time. 

For example: The Poster Project. 

(By the way, the Avocado-Poster will be printed

 as a double sided and folded poster soon.)

 

I also tried to find a place for each poster in the flat.

the vegetables -of course- in the kitchen

the poem in the corridor (I like both possibilities)

Now that the poster project is over, I think about how to archive it. Yesterday, 

I had this idea of presenting them with matching dresses of mine. I am still

not sure if it is a good idea, but these two test-shots are quite funny (sorry for

the blurry one). By the way, the avocado-forest will be a folded, double sided, 

offset printed poster later.

Miranda July once did it the other way around: Her book "No one belongs here more 

than you" comes in different colours. If you ask me, I would buy all of them, 

but unfortunately I always only see the yellow one which I already own. Still love

a frozen book (work in progress)

When Larissa and I worked on the "Poetic Censorship Project" we suddenly had the image of a frozen book in our minds. How would that look like, what would it mean? In which way can a frozen book stand for censorship? One of these advices, that we internalized during studying here is: If you have an idea, then go for it (which means not only do it, but do it 100%). Although our final result of the project is something very different, I am happy, that we put the book in the freezer. It is beautiful, isn't it?

Finally, I found a reason to stretch type. (A tribute to awkwardness.)

letterpress 01 / 99

Finally, I started working in the letterpress workshop. It is AMAZING.
And addictive. Unfortunately, I have to wait till January to go on.
I started with setting the weather forecasts - just with the aim to get
into working there. James, who runs the studio asked me if this is an
on-going project and if I will make many of them. I did not think about
it before, but: YES, I will! (this one is set in Bembo, 60 point and Bembo
italic, 12 point. Unfortunately I just recognized that there was is a
wrong o in the case. >>Try to find it)

circle studies

Nazareno Crea used a nice analogy to explain how to develop creative ideas. We move in circles. Up and down, back and forth, including failure and mistakes. Having this returned to my mind, I am obsessed by circles. I remember these coloured spiral plastic toys. It seems to be a symbol for my life at the moment. Or maybe, for life in general. I also remember an exhibition in Berlin, titled 

"Every circle makes sense". Yes. Circles, everywhere.

camberwell cookbook / cover

The second assignment: a collective cookbook. 

Everybody designs his/her own recipes and makes a proposal for the cover. 

For my cover, I made a typeface out of prints from vegetable pieces. 

(Try to identify leek, potato, pepper, onion, celery and carrot.)

Go to the library. Chose a book with a bad cover and an interesting content. 

Design a new dust jacket for your chosen book. My choice: PAOLO FREIRE

Education for critical consciousness. The original jacket shows fish (on the left). 

My new jacket is a simple and striking typographic solution (Helvetica bold).
The changing position of the "O" is a symbol for the head and the change of
consciousness. Printed on sugar plant paper, which is rough and has a nice colour.

a lot of grey

It's grey. It hasn't been today but the day before yesterday and the day before
and the week before, too. When it is grey, it's not only grey, it is very grey. Surprisingly, it is nice, in a way. (Again, it fits to the whole story: In April 
this year I made the following posters during a workshop in Offenbach. In these 
days, I was preparing my application to come here. And: the workshop leader is

Discover the in-betweens and be aware of people that tell you the opposide.

Ping Pong

Thank you, Sebastian Best for making this spontaneous grafic-social-intervention-ping-pong together. Now, our studio seems to be much more cosy and we have spent an evening together with beer, pretzels and a shower of confetti. And, of course TAMPOPO. Besides, it is a good experiences to take things out of public trash bins as I did it with these newspapers. You feel bad and people look at you, although you are doing something good with recycling the stuff. I am going to train that.
